Transformed Front Garden

I love going around other people’s gardens and looking at what they’ve done. However when it came to redeveloping my own front garden I quickly concluded that doing it piecemeal and hoping the end result might eventually work was a serious mistake.

I originally invited three designers to view the garden and outline what they could offer. Julie was the only one willing to engage properly and put the time and effort in at the initial visit to help tease out the vague images and planting profiles I had in my mind.

She subsequently worked with my partner and I to identify plants that appealed to us and which would work in the planting scheme she was developing.

Julie was always willing to discuss options and possible alternatives. She’s obviously able to hold a clear picture in her head of what the end result would look like in a year or two. This helped us to understand why plants we had seen elsewhere wouldn’t fit into the style of garden we had asked her to work on.

She sourced all the plants I needed and when they were delivered today I could see they were all healthy and in excellent condition. By the end of the afternoon with both of us working on the planting I had a completely transformed front garden.

Throughout the whole process Julie was easy to work with and I would definitely recommend her to anyone wanting to improve their garden.

Julie undertook our new patio design towards the end of 2022 and we were very pleased with the design she came up with.

We also used her services to prepare the specifications for the work and got quotations from two contractors. The work was completed during June 2023 and we were very pleased with the results.

It was a pleasure working with Julie on the design and she took on board our objectives/vision for what we required. She was very helpful throughout the whole process, I would gladly recommend her services.

Sloping New Build garden

I used Julie’s design service for my new build garden in Haywards Heath. Throughout the process, she was very helpful and professional producing a series of designs after regular discussions with me.

A detailed design was then agreed, including exact measurements and material quantities which facilitated the landscaping going out to tender. Once the contractor was agreed, the design was very well constructed and I’m delighted with the end product.

Throughout, Julie was extremely professional, friendly and helpful, with her work being received on a very timely basis and to agreed budget parameters.

I’m delighted to recommend her work to others.

Working with Julie to design our garden project has been very successful.

Our garden was accessed from a basement kitchen via some uneven brick steps that were falling apart, and also down a flight of rather steep stone steps from the ground floor. There was a narrow patio leading to a concrete area which had formerly been the floor of a garage.

We needed space and openness, and modernisation of the access. Julie’s design was brilliant.

The basement area was enlarged with new steps and raised flower beds. The steps down from the ground floor were rebuilt with a right turn halfway down. Both flights of steps now have railings. The patio area is now a single paved area, extending over the old concrete floor, with raised flower and herb beds and trellises around one end.

The sense of space is amazing, and the access is elegant. We had several meetings with Julie to finalise the design. Her ideas were bold whilst fitting in with our ideas and the limitations of the site. We would highly recommend her.

Deck and pathway

Beautiful boardwalk and deck

Having cleared an area of evergreen shrubs which were taking over we found ourselves with a space next to the pond which we wanted to turn into an area we could relax in.

Julie visited the garden to discuss what we were trying to create, and she came back with a number of ideas based on a raised wooden deck connected to the rest of the garden by a boardwalk.

We thought this was a great idea as it complimented this part of the garden which is shady with tall pines and eucalyptus. Julie drew up four designs and we chose an option that curved down the side of the garden and linked to the deck which reflected the fluid path of the boardwalk.

Julie then developed a detailed plan after taking measurements and levels and recommended a landscape contractor. During the build Julie supported us by visiting to ensure the build was to spec.

Due to the pandemic the build was delayed for about a year, but we now have a beautiful boardwalk and deck which sits very comfortably and naturally within the garden.

All in all, a very easy process.

We had just moved into a new build with a basic garden consisting of a sloping, soggy lawn which was unattractive, overlooked and had a few basic slabs for a patio and a path to the garage.

The design process was extremely interesting and Julie listened carefully to what we wanted to achieve with the garden design and offered some great suggestions.

She was happy to alter and include other ideas as we went along and give guidance on whether our ideas were viable.

Her communication was good and clear and we had zoom meetings during lockdown to keep the process going.

We also enlisted Julie’s services to suggest and source all the plants which was fun and very reassuring when planting up a whole garden from scratch.

We are delighted with the end product and would have no hesitation in recommending Julie Cox to anyone.

Colourful Planting

Fantastic Garden Design and Planting plans

We’d recently completed the renovation of the house and our thoughts had turned toward plans for the garden. The garden hadn’t been maintained by the previous owner and was completely overgrown.

After an initial meeting with Julie, where we discussed ideas, she came up with a brief for the design of it. We found the design phase to be effortless. We weren’t the easiest of clients to please and Julie coped well with any changes that we suggested. She listened to our requirements and gave guidance when needed. She came up with various design options which were very well put together and enabled us to decide on how the overall plan for the garden would look. All communication was very clear and precise and this filled us with confidence for the design going forward.

When it came to planting the garden, we were provided with mood boards on how the plants would look as well as planting plans for the borders. Julie sourced and arranged delivery of the plants which happened to coincide with the COVID-19 pandemic. During these difficult times, she managed to keep to the agreed timescales for delivery and planting of them which meant that we were able to enjoy our garden at a much needed time.

I would have no hesitation in recommending Julie to anyone needing a design for their garden.

Julie visited our home to discuss our requirements re planting up of two fairly large borders and made several suggestions which impressed us.

We asked Julie to produce a planting design and, after a few follow up emails giving further options and suggestions, she presented a very professional, clear and attractive plan which we were delighted with.

Julie then arranged the purchase of the plants, gave me lots of good advice on preparation, and did most of the planting herself with me helping.

We are both delighted with our newly planted borders and have been extremely impressed by Julie’s service throughout the whole process. Although I consider myself to be a reasonable gardener, I have also learned quite a lot from Julie which has been a bonus.

If we decide to replant our front garden in the future then we will certainly be in touch with Julie again.

Neither my wife or I are keen gardeners and our knowledge of plants and techniques are next to none. Julie has therefore shown great patience and communication skills when guiding us gently through the concepts of garden design and plant selection.

Armed with her great knowledge and attention to detail, she listened to our thoughts and was able to interpret them to produce a stunning layout for both the front and rear gardens. This is backed up not just by our words, but the many positive comments from neighbours and passers-by including the postman who thought we had the best drive in the street.

During the project Julie has been very flexible when fixing appointments around our working days, and as always turned up on time when she said she would.

In short Julie has taken a process, which for us was a potential minefield, and turned it into an enjoyable and exciting period, watching a bland garden turn into a vibrant and beautiful garden.
